Welcome to Summer Fridays! Although summer is halfway over (or more?! what is time?), I decided to start – or continue, ha! – a weekly Friday update post. Fridays in the summer just hit different. And although we’re in the middle of a global pandemic, summer is still pretty nice, right? Heat, sun, smores, fresh air! Gimme it all. Here’s what I’ve been up to –>
I’ve been making a chopped version of my Greek Chicken Salad a lot lately. It goes so well with a piece of toasted focaccia or naan and is the perfect amount of light for the summer but filling and satiating enough to ward of midday snack cravings. Also loving this caramelized onion and sausage sourdough pizza, obviously.
And let’s not forget the new Jeni’s Ice Cream flavors. insert one zillion heart eyes emojis
Spicy watermelon margaritas. Because, obviously. Margaritas are an integral part of summer fridays.
I’ve been reading a lot lately. I’ll read almost anything but I think my favorite genres are thrillers, historical non-fiction (can’t wait to see what’s written about this time period – as if living it isn’t horrifying enough!), and like, rom-coms? Is that a book genre? It is now.
Two of my favorites this month: Here and Gone and The Leaving. Here and Gone is difficult to get through, at times, because of the subject matter. It’s about a mom and her two children driving across country to escape her abusive husband. She gets pulled over by two shady cops in a seedy town, is jailed, and then her children are taken from her. The Leaving has The Leftovers (HBO) vibes to it and it was a pretty good read but not a I-can’t-put-it-down read, you know?
Folklore, obviously. TS8 is a masterpiece. Do I miss the signature Taylor bops? Yes. But I’m here for this entire album and I love that she was just like “not a whole lot going on at the moment” and then dropped this beauty.
Podcasts: really into Be There in Five’s deep dives, especially her most recent Britney deep dive (Part A | Part B). Michelle Obama‘s first podcast episode dropped this week and her husband, Barack (ever heard of him?), is her first guest. The premise of her podcast is “relationships” and in her first episode, she and her husband discuss their relationship with each other, their families, and their relationships and responsibilities to their communities as a whole. I’m really looking forward to hearing Michelles future episodes!
And lastly, my Quaranclean playlist. I created it as a fun playlist to listen to while I deep cleaned my apartment in March but here I am, 4 months later, still jamming.
Although travel is pretty much out of the question right now, Matt and I have been planning our future travels. As of now, our big trips include Hawaii (Maui & Oahu) and we think we’ll go to Germany for Matt’s 30th next June (just let us have this, okay!).I am taking any and all suggestions for our trips!
